flying over New York City and have just flown by the..
Empire State Building!
The Empire State
Building is 102 stories tall.
It is the 3rd tallest
building in the USA and the 15th tallest building in the world.

Jason are flying by the White House.
The President lives
here and does alot of his work in the Oval Office.
Michael thinks he
may see the President walking his dog "Bo". It is a Portuguese
Water Dog.

flying up the coast of Maine.
The ocean is beautiful
and mysterious.
Oceans cover about
70% of the earth's surface.
The average depth
of the ocean is 1,000 meters.
There is a total
of 326,000,000,000,000,000,000
gallons of water on Earth.
(326 million trillion gallons)

Breeana and Hannah are flying over
the Statue of Liberty...
AND so is the President! That
plane is Air Force One.
I wonder where he is going?
Technically any plane that
the President of the United States is on.. is called Air Force One.

Here is the Statue of Liberty.
Cara, Lauren and Christina are remembering
that the people of France gave the American people this statue to
celebrate the 100th year anniversity of our country.
It also represents the friendship
between France and the United States.
The Statue sits on Ellis Island
and represents freedom, liberty and justice for all who come to
live in America.
Ellis Island (from 1892 - 1954)
was the main federal immigration station and processed over 12 million
immigrants so they could have freedom and a better life.

Jade and Angelika are
flying over Niagra Falls.
How beautiful!
It is the most powerful waterfall
in North America.
You can go on a boat called the
Maid of the Mist and it will take you right up to the falls. The
boat disappears into the mist. It is really scary. Ask Mrs. Waters!!!

Emma, Libby and
Hannah are flying over King's Island in Ohio.
Right behind them is "The
Beast"
The Beast is the best wooden roller
coaster ride ever!
We especially like the double
helix!

Megan, Payten, Makayla, Cassie
and Catherine have flown west to Mt. Rushmore.
Mt. Rushmore is located in
the Black Hills of South Dakota.
The carving of Mt. Rushmore
was created as a tourist attraction.
The carving of Washington,
Jefferson, Roosevelt and Lincoln started in1927 and ended in 1941.

Tyler, Steven, Cole and Alexis
have flown to a place that is very hard to get to any other way.
It is a remote area in Nevada
called Little Finland....
aka - Hobgoblins Playground
It is filled with Dragons and
other mythic beasts of yore...that seem to have turned to stone.
If you ever get a chance to
go - it is worth it!

Jarred and Amanda are flying high
over the Grand Canyon.
The Grand Canyon is in the state
of Arizona and was made by the Colorado River.
The sides of the canyon are about
a mile tall and the canyon is anywhere from 4 - 18 miles wide!!!
It is thought that it took the
Colorado River 17 million years to carve out this canyon!

Kaitlin and Nicholas are very excited
about flying over Crater Lake.
It is a lake formed in a volcanic
crater.
It is the deepest lake in the United
States with a depth of 594 m (1,949 ft). Crater Lake is fed solely
by falling rain and snow. It is one of the clearest lakes in the
world.

Talking about volcanoes.......Jordan
and Taylor are flying across Mt. Saint Helen's.
This volcano is located
in the state of Washington.
It erupted May 18,
1980 and sent ash into 11 states.
Be careful......from
the looks of the smoke...it may erupt soon!

Seth and Jessie must want to be
on the "Big Screen"...they have flown all the way to
Hollywood.
Hollywood is home of movie making
and movie stars.
The first filmaking studio was
build in 1909!
It is also known as Tinseltown!

Christian
and Harvest have flown all the way to San Francisco, California.
Behind them is the famous Golden
Gate Bridge.
It was built in 1937. Before it
was built people had to use a ferry boat to get across the bay.
San Francisco was just a small
little town - until the Gold Rush.

Be Careful Kayla and Haley! Don't
Fall!
Haley must be in a hurry to land
in Rio de Janeiro...the capital of Brazil.
Rio de Janeiro is on the east
coast of Brazil bordering the pacific ocean.
It is the home of Carnival!!!
And it will host the 2016 Summer
Olympics!
What a beautiful place!

Amanda and Kaitlyn are in the
depth of the Amazon Rainforest.
A native of the rainforest ...the
puma....is wondering who has come to visit his habitat.
The Amazon Rainforest is 1.4 billion
acres of land.

Megan, Gus and Corey are flying
over the Galapagos Islands...off the west coast of Equador.
Below them are the famous Galapagos
Tortoises.
Full grown Tortoises weigh more
than 661 pounds.
The live to be 100-150 years old.
Be careful Gus...they like to
bite!

Noah and Alexis are also visiting
the Galapagos Islands.
They are becoming acquainted with
the Galapagos Land Iguana. This iguana only lives on the Galapagos
Islands.
It looks like this iguana likes
Alexis and Noah...maybe he wants to go on a magic carpet ride!

Michelle and Krista are
flying over Peru.
Below them is the ruins called
Machu Picchu also know as "the lost city of the Inca's".
The Inca;s started building this city around 1430 AD.
It is the biggest tourist attraction
in Peru.
This llama is watching Michelle
and Krista very closely. Llamas used to live in the United States
- but migrated south during the last ice age...about 3 million
years ago.

Lindsey and Mariah have been exploring the Amazon
Rainforest.
Behind them is the San Rafael Falls on the Quijos
River.
It is the most spectacular waterfall in Ecuador...but
watch out it sits at the foot of a highly active volcano called
"Revenador".

Chris and Ashley have flown to Easter Islands.
These islands are off the west coast of Chili.
Easter Island is famous for it's 887 statues called
Moai built by the Rapanui people.
Chris and Ashley are flying past one of these
statues right now.
They beleive these statues were created from 400AD
- 1500 AD
They are made from volcanic stone.

Look at Danielle and Elizabeth
flying over Angel Falls.
It is located in Venezuela.
It is the highest waterfalls in
the world.
Believe it or not....people who
live in Venezuela did not know about Angel Falls until 1930.
They must not get out much! How
could you miss it?

Buddy and Mallory have flown to Africa.
In Art Mrs. Baxter has been teaching students
about some of the West African art and culture.
This lion is lazily watching.....be careful Buddy
and Mallory...he is King of the Jungle!

Hey Morgan and Richard...look who's behind you.
He might be looking for something to eat....they
like peanuts.
On airplanes they give out peanuts to the passagers....do
you get any peanuts for flying on a magic carpet???

While flying across the African savannah...Chris
comes across a very unusual scene.
Are those giraffes parking attendants?
I wonder how much it costs to park in the African
savannah?

Jessica and Priscilla are flying over Lake
Bosumtwi.
This lake was created from a meteorite which
hit the earth approximately 1.3 million years ago. The climate
change caused an increase in rain and filled the crater and created
a lake.
These Ashunti's are fishing. Where are their
fishing poles and worms?

Makayla and Makayla have joined
an Ashanti celebration.
The Ashanti music and dance teach values, traditions
and their belief system.
The main instruments in African music are drums
The masks are used in religious ceremonies to
contact spirits and ancestors.

This baby gorilla is very excited to see Kilee
and Summer flying by on this magic carpet. He wants to fly on
a magic carpet too!
Gorillas inhabit central Africa.They can live
at all levels of elevation.
Gorillas can live on mountains, rainforests, and
swamps.

Damien and Mason have flown to northern Africa.
They are in Egypt.
The ancient Egyptians are famous for many things.
The most famous is the Pyramids and the Sphinx that are in this
picture.
It is believed they were built between 2500
BC - 2100 BC. They are really, really old...and they are still
standing.
We need to have Ancient Egyptians building
our roads and bridges today!

Mason and Creed have traveled to London.
They have arrived in time to watch the changing
of the guards in front of Buckingham Palace.
The changing of the guard means that new guards
will replace the old guards on duty.
This takes place at around 11 am.

Tiffany, Elle, and Madison
are flying across London, England.
They remember singing the song..London
Bridge is Falling Down. It doesn't look like it fell down....it
is still standing!
England has a long history
of Kings and Queens running the country. But they have a Prime
Minister now. He is voted to be Prime Minister.
London will host the 2012 Summer
Olympics.

Grace and Haley are in London too.
Look on the top of those chimneys!
Those are Chimney Pots. Chimney Pots were decorative clay pots
put on top of the chimney to increase the draft of the chimney...
for better heating in the home. For many years homes were heated
by fireplaces.
Chimney Sweeps ( people who clean out chimneys)
are one of the oldest jobs in the world. They clean out the chimneys
to keep chimneys from catching on fire.

Zoey, Ciarra, and Leeanna are
also in England.
They are flying by Stonehenge.
Stonehenge is a rock monument made up of over
150 enormous rocks placed in a circular pattern.
It is believed to have been built back around
2,000 BC.
And why did these people build Stonehenge?
How did people with no modern tools move these
stones?
That is the mystery!

Ryleigh, Jewell, and Austin have flown west of England
....over to Iceland.
Behind them is the Blue Lagoon. This is a geothermal
spa. People come from all over the world to soak in the waters...because
it is supposed to help if you are suffering from certain illnesses.
The water is around 100 degrees! The lagoon holds
600 million liters of geothermal warmed seawater and it is renewed
every 40 hours.
No time for bacteria to grow there!

Megan and Abby have flown to Holland.
Holland is in the Netherlands.
It is the land of wooden shoes and windmills.
The Dutch (people who live in the Netherlands)
have built windmills for hundreds of years.
The windmills harness the power of the wind to
do things...like make electricity or grind grain into flour.
I wonder if a windmill can replace gasoline in
a car!

Haven and Laurelin have flown to the city of
Venice. It is in Italy.
Venice is unique because it is built on a number
of islands and it's streets are water canals.
You don't travel in a car - you travel in boats.
How cool is that!

Luke, Lance and Ciara are flying over Switzerland.
Switzerland is famous for skiing, chocolate,
cheese, banking system , watches and for the setting of the movie
"The Sound of Music"......
"The hills are alive with the sound of music!"

Damien and Mason are flying high in Germany.
Behind them is one of the most famous castles...Neuschwanstein
Castle.
More than 1.3 million visit it yearly. In the
summer sometimes there are 6,000 visitors a day.
Does this castle look famliar? Disney used this
castle as a model to build the Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland
Park!

Talk about old...Collin and Mikey are flying
in front of the ancient Roman Coliseum in Rome, Italy.
It was built by the Romans and finished in
80AD.
It was an amphitheater which could hold up
to 50,000 people at a time.

Ryan and Austin are inside the coliseum.
Wow !!!
When they built this - they didn't have cranes
and bulldozers.
There were 76 entrances ...that's so all 50,000
people can exit the coliseum in 5 minutes!
That sure would pass fire code!!!

It is not the tallest structure in the world ...yet
Jeicy and Laela are flying in front of the most recognizable structure
in the world.....the Eiffel Tower.
As you know it is located in Paris, France.
It is the background for lots of movies....like
"Rugrats in Paris" and "Superman II".
It was originally going to be build in Spain -
but they didn't want it. They thought it looked silly.
Too bad for Spain. France makes lots of money
every year when tourists come to visit.

Jadie, Katie and Mikayla are flying over Moscow,
Russia.
The Kremlin is like a city....inside a city. It
is beautiful and has 20 towers and lots of beautiful buildings.
The Krelin is in the heart of Moscow. It is where
the Russian President lives and runs the government.

Joe decided to
fly to China.
Behind him is the Great Wall of
China.
It is the only man made object
that can be seen from outer space.
It was built 2000 years ago to
keep China from being invaded by warring tribes from the north.

Emma, Hannah and Alexis haven't
decided if they are going to climb Mt. Everest. They will probably
just fly up there.
It's a long way up there.
It is 29,035 feet tall. Each
year it grows a few millimeters because of forces in the earth's
crust.
It's mighty cold at those high
elevations. You better put your coats, hats, gloves and long underwear
on! BRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Haley and Billy are flying
over Alaska.
Behind them is a glacier. A glacier is a large
sheet of ice.
Glaciers usually move very slowly - less than
a foot each day.
Most glaciers lead to an ocean...and often
big hunks of glacier fall off and make a big splash. This is called
"Calving"

Look what Jill, Ciara and Savannah
found.
They must be at Anartica. These
are Rockhopper Penquins
Did you know that penquins only
live in the southern hemisphere?
"Waddle, waddle, waddle"
They are so cute!

Joey and Logan are flying over Alaska.
The Northern Lights are dancing in the sky.They
are also called Auroras.
It is caused by the solar wind mixing with
the earth's magnetic field.
But the Inuit Native Americans believe that
the beautiful dancing lights in the sky means the dead are playing
football with a walrus skull.
Oh , my!

Dakota and McKenzie are way up over Greenland.
It is funny that Greenland is actually covered
with ice. Why is it called Greenland? That is just silly!
This is Disko Bay...what an interesting arch in
this iceberg. I wonder how it was formed.

Rachel and Corinne are flying over Alaska.
They are a little confused. Isn't that bear supposed
to be white. It should be a polar bear.
But it is brown?
Then we learned that brown bears live in Alaska
too!

Cynthia and Chyanna have flown to Antarctica also.
Look at all the penguins. This reminds them of
the movie "Happy Feet".
This little penguin wants to get out of the cold
and go home with them.
