Director: Special Education/Preschool   (859) 491-6565
Brittney Howell

Mrs. Howell has been with Dayton Independent Schools for 2 years and said she has never worked in a place that is so dedicated to the growth of each individual student.

She has been surrounded by educators her entire life and therefore, her philosophical foundation of her views on public education, specifically, the importance of meeting the needs of diverse learners, was laid at a very early age.  She attended Morehead State University and holds teaching certifications in Learning and Behavior Disorders P-12, Elementary Education P-5.  Also through Morehead, she earned her Masters and Rank 1 in educational leadership and obtained a Director of Special Education Certification.  She has taught at the middle school level and elementary level and worked as a special education facilitator and lead teacher.

Her “why” with her job came about with her love for instructional strategies of children with ADHD and executive skills weaknesses and the KY Strengthening Families framework. She loves working with families to; strengthen the nurturing and attachment with their children, help foster a positive, collaborative relationship with our school, assist their ability to become the best advocate for their children, provide resources and knowledge to promote family, personal, and their children’s growth.  All of these components can be done while recognizing each families strengths in order to promote healthy, constructive, and rich brain development and building positive relationships and strong executive skills.

Her life “why” is shaped from her wonderful husband (Garrick) and her two beautiful children; Trent (9) and Lorelei (3). She enjoys running, working out, women’s health, and encouraging an active, healthy lifestyle for herself and her family. They spend a lot of time outside jumping on the trampoline, kayaking, snow tubing, hiking, playing basketball, soccer, or attending any UK or Bengals sporting event they can.  Go Cats and Who Dey!
